The client
Capita Registrars is the UK's largest provider of share registration services, acting as registrar to more than 50% of the listed companies in the UK (as of May 2011). They are part of a FTSE 100 group, Capita plc, who is the UK's leading provider of business process outsourcing and integrated professional support service solutions.
The challenge
Capita Registrars had several key criteria which needed to be met:
- Complete a technology audit and help decide the best way to future proof the website for use on traditional computers, tablets and smartphones,
- Create a sitemap to ensure a smooth user experience whereby all content is easy to find and reach,
- Redevelop the design in line with tight corporate brand guidelines,
- Write copy for the website in an easy to understand and digest way
- Work closely with internal IT teams so website can be built on in-house content management system.
What we did
The project started with a workshop meeting whereby we were able to get a full understanding of what Capita needed from their new website. Following this workshop, we provided a scope of work which was agreed to ensure all parties knew how the project would proceed.
We completed a full technology audit, providing a series of options for technologies to use in the site which would ensure the highest level of compatibility (and essentially removing reliance on Adobe Flash). This included JQuery carousels and overlays, news feeds, calendars, embedded content, blogs and more.
Once the technology was agreed we developed the sitemap for over 50 pages of content, making sure that everything was available within three clicks, an industry best practice to make things as simple as possible for a visitor to find.
The next phase was to redesign the existing site, working closely with the Capita marketing and brand teams to make sure that site would fit with the tight corporate brand guidelines which covered colours, fonts, photography and imagery styles. Once the design was signed off, we developed a working prototype for the heads of the business to 'play with'.
Following sign off of the design, we wrote a webtext copy document containing the content for the website so that it could be dropped in by the IT team during the build phase.
Finally we supported Capita IT through the development of the site on their own content management system and completed a thorough testing and review of the site before it went live.
The results
The website was successfully and smoothly built and launched on time. It has been extremely well received not only by Capita but also by their huge client base who visit and use the website regularly. We have provided a client quote on the right, but there is a full testimonial available on request. |
